NERD BATTLE: MARVEL CIVIL WAR

On episode 3 of Mike vs. The World, we held an old-fashioned pick'em in the spirit of the next Captain America: Civil War

I pitted Nerd Mode's Spacebuck Chuck against The B.S. Chronicles and Snake Oil Comics' Big Dev

The rules were whoever picked first, chose either Iron Man or Captain America as their team captains, and then opposite person got the other guy and got to choose the next person. Dev elected to defer and Chuck took Captain America, which left Dev with Iron Man.

These are the teams they chose. You chose who is the winner!

TEAM SPACEBUCK CHUCK
Captain America, The Vision, Scarlet Witch, War Machine, Black Widow

VS

TEAM BIG DEV
Iron Man, The Winter Soldier, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Ant-Man

TOP 10 MARVEL MOVIES

On the last episode of Mike Vs. The World, Chuck from Nerd Mode, Devin from the B.S. Chronicles and SnakeOil Comics, and I compiled the definitive list of the best Marvel movies released. Check it out and comment!

10. X-MEN 2: X-MEN UNITED

Even though there is no new super villain introduced in this movie, the conflict between Wolverine and Stryker is so visceral, you don’t need one. Plus, Wolverine finally stops being a wuss and starts doing what he does best … killing some damn people.

9. SPIDER MAN

The original Spider Man, while a tad dated in terms of special effects and extremely cheezy, is an “amazing” example of a feel-good superhero movie. It set a great tone for future movies, and I loved Willem Defoe’s portrayal of the Green Goblin.

8. X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Days of Future past was the best possible thing to happen to the X-Men franchise because it fixed all the mistakes made from X3 on. Time travel is convenient for that. Also, they took one of my favorite story arcs from the comics and did a damn fine job adapting it to the big screen.

7. SPIDER MAN 2

“Superior” to the original in just about every way, Spider Man 2 reaches the peak of the franchise only two movies in. Benjamin Molina’s Doc Ock is incredible, and some of the fights in this movie are edge of your seat fantastic.

6. X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

First Class was a movie I avoided at first, and I was stupid to. The team of James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as Professor X and Magneto are extraordinary. It was an amazing “re-envisioning” to the series that was sorely needed.

5. IRON MAN

The first of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies was also one of the best. This movie absolutely revitalized Robert Downey Jr.’s career and also set up what will go down in history as probably the most successful movie franchise of all time. Not only that, but the movie is absolutely solid from top to bottom.

4. AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

The latest installment of the Avengers franchise is a little more serious than the original, but not any less fantastic. Focusing more on Black widow, Hawkeye, and Hulk … this movie proves that even the less-powered members of the team can really shine. James Spaders’ voice acting as hyper-sensitive, homicidal Ultron was 2nd to none.

3. CAPTAIN AMERICA 2: THE WINTER SOLDIER

The Winter Soldier, or as I like to call it “Avengers 1.5,” was an incredible movie. America’s hero Steve Rogers has to simultaneously fight the Assassin known as The Winter Soldier (which turns out to be an old friend) as well as Shield itself, which has been infiltrated by Hydra. it both wraps up the previous movie and sets up so much in the future.

2. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

This is easily the most light-hearted of the MCU movies, and at the same time one of the best. The rag-tag group of misfits known as the Guardians of the Galaxy have as much chemistry as the Avengers, with much more laughter. That, plus the soundtrack alone, makes this the surprise hit of Marvel Studios.

1. THE AVENGERS

The Avengers is just about the “Perfect” example of both a superhero movie and a summer blockbuster. The writing and directing of Joss Whedon combined with A+ performances from just about every actor in the movie make this a film that is just about universally loved. While the Avengers are the stars, you can’t overlook the job Tom Hiddleston did as Loki, who will go down as one of the best villains in comic-book movie history. That final fight scene of the Avengers vs. the Army of Chitauri is one of the most impressive displays of CGI action of all time.
